I compiled this list from Elizabeth Matterson’s This little puffin (Penguin), which is a classic for nursery rhymes and songs.
Are you sleeping (Frere Jacques)
She didn’t dance
Incy-wincy spider
Up the wooden hill
Tommy Thumb
I’m a little teapot
Row, row, row your boat
The farmer in his dell
I went to visit
Oats and beans
Down by the river
Twinkle, twinkle
Katie Beardie
There are other songs which work well with a dominant drone (like when the tune is in G and you set a D drone)
Cobbler, cobbler,
Skip to my lou and many others...
I suggest you to experiment with all the tunes you know, if you do it with your daughter you can decide together whether it sounds good or not with the drone. She will learn a lot about harmony without noticing it! And in the end of the day you can use your melody string only.
Best wishes,
Cecilia

Dear All,
I’m looking for some songs, ideally with simple tunes which are gurdiable, which I can sing with my young daughter. She is very good at learning words, sp long as they’re not too complicated. Could anyone offer some suggestions?

Subject: Re: [HG] Strings
Oh Collin, this could be an question that is answered in 200 different ways. So, first start by telling us what you have now, whether you play gut or nylon or metal, what sound you like and if you use wound strings on the melody. Basically it is best to list what you have and the answers will follow.
Although, this is not the definitive list of strings and various players say "I like this or that string or size" it will work as a guide. http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/1045/strings/strings.html
I personally use a .97 on the melody for the G and a 1.04 on the trompette both natural gut. I have not yet had a need to replace the heavier drone strings so I am not much help there. Keep in mind that the core of the larger drones is something that you need to keep in mind as well not just the overall diameter.
That should make it easy......right. Sorry I couldn't make it easier. For direct questions I differ to the Mathematical genius of Alden for the hard questions.
