Hello,

relating to the seven Celtic nations.

the who? Please can anyone update me with the meaning of this term?

the hurdy-gurdy, a medieval stringed instrument commonly used in Breton folk music.

Being not more medieval than the violin, the organ or oboe, the hurdy-gurdy is as far as I know rarely documented in Breton folk music during the last twohundred years exept for a small area next to Normandy. From a mor global view it is for sure not more breton than it is swiss, latvian or hungarian.

The hurdy-gurdy is definitely by no means celtic.

Chabenat plays an experimental electro-acoustic hurdy-gurdy,

this is not experimental but a standard instrument. Siorat manufatures the electroaccoustic "Alto" for nearly the last twenty years or so. During all this years you could and still can simply order it.

Sorry for beeing so harsh, but I find this promo-text in more than one way deeply irritating. It sums up all urban legends, popular errors and ideological missbeliefs on can find concerning hurdy-gurdies and/or "celts".

kind regards

Simon
