This answer may not be totally convincing , but let me
tell my story .

When visiting the Cité de la Musique in Paris , my friend and I
came in front of an exibit that showed a guitar shaped HG
in parts , far to gone to be repaired . Of course we stopped
and stared for a while and suddenly my friend started to laugh .

- Look inside the the box ! said he .
But at 5'10" I was still to short to see inside the beat up instrument,
so he had to lift me in his arms so I could see the inside
of the HG ..... Here it was , a nice round sound hole
patched with some veneer on the outside ! No doubt the
HG had been a guitar in its youth . When recycled the top
became the flat bottom and the arched bottom replaced with
a proper sound board .

picture is available on the web on this site
http://www.cite-musique.fr/francais/documentation/dossier.htm

Having recently converted to the iMac cult , I can not
go further to show the exact w-addres of the picture .

In conclusion , my vote goes to the flat bottom .
