I concour. You might could get a louder chanter by lowering the string, but the scratchy indicates thats its too low already, so raise it a bit. You might start with Capt Zag paper and fold it over double. Then double that etc. any more than that I'd recommend Onion skin paper, then normal printer/copier paper up to kraft paper bag stuff. If your up to 3x5 or business card stock Id think about adding some wood. We can talk about that in private, if needed...it's kinda like surgery: I don't want to discuss the gory details out here in public where little kids, etc.... Raising the chanter should clean up the scratches, but you will loose volume: because both are dependant on the pressure of the string on the wheel, so you don't want to raise it anymore than you have to. You could dress the wheel down a bit.... There's ways to quieten the drone but lets clean up the scratchy business first. OR we could look at retooling the tangent-row to get 2 tangents per key, then you could use that extra drone key for a chanter.... >
