I have just ordered a K&K Big Twin from Germany (it's cheaper there than in
the UK). It's made in the US, you can buy it from
http://www.bluestarmusic.com/. I have tried it in a music shop in London and
worked well, without a preamp. Needs a bit of experimenting with the
placement of the pads, it can be permanently fixed, but not necessary. I
found it interesting that the chap used a thin layer of blue tack to put it
on and it was OK.
This is by the way a good idea, to talk to a shop and ask them to try things
out.
