You are probably getting the drone to sound sympathetically. That can be OK.
I just noticed that when I play the G with just the open string length with one chanter connected only I get a loud bass G like a bass string.. When I hit the next note A or any other key it goes away and sounds good.. Its only happening on the Open G.. Seth
