Hallo. This subject is very interesting but it is going a
little off-topic. Anyway, my point is why do they call "Celtic"
this style of music? Perhaps the reason is that folk revival in the late
sixties began around Irish music and was soon mixed with Bretagne language
reivindication or
that music sellers found it easy to label their product that way.
Nevertheless, a more accurate descriptor would be something as "music
inspired in Pan European XVIIIth and XIXth centuries dance music".
Please, understand I do
not question Celtic settlements here or there nor a putative Celtic heritage
or background (for the Iberian Peninsula it dates back before Roman conquest,
Chistendom, Germanic, Byzantine, Arab influences etc). On the
other hand, it is hard to believe that ("Celtic" or
"non-Celtic") European populations before say 1750 practised
anything similar to our current "Celtic music".
Now I promise I shall not
speak anything more about this topic in the HG list. Please, enjoy the tunes
and test them on your HG if they appeal you.
Yours,
Wenceslao Martínez Calonge
