I find PayPal the only convenient way to send small quantities of money from
one country to another. I realize you're asking for input from people in
Europe and most of your responses (including mine) are from US residents. I
do transactions both ways, receiving payments for CDs I sell, and buying
merchandise from retailers, booksellers, or eBay. I am very happy with it.

It is convenient and quick. Some people won't use it because of the charges,
but they generally are the people who won't take credit cards either. That's
just a cost of doing business though, as far as I'm concerned. International
Money Orders from the US use the most arcane and convoluted system I have
ever come across, banks charge large fixed fees for check collection, which
means checks are prohibitive for small amounts. Hurrah for PayPal.

About the only issue I can think of is whether you trust the person on the
other end, that you're sending the money to.
