I really think Valve needs to clarify how this steam thing is going to affect mod authors. Two things I gathered from the slide show on the steam website was that they are intending to go to a pay-to-play system for online gaming. I really think that's going to fly like a ton of bricks. The second was an indirect reference to a requirement that mod authors pay a licensing fee and/or royalty for a steam enabled mod. I can just about guarantee that will kill the mod community. While it's true that there is no requirement to use steam at present, the presentation suggests that by the time CS 1.5 comes out that steam be the order of the day.
Personally, I don't know what to think about steam. It sorta looks like that .NET evil that M$ is trying to shove down peoples throat. _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlcoders
