I really think Valve needs to clarify how this steam thing is going to
affect mod authors. Two things I gathered from the slide show on the steam
website was that they are intending to go to a pay-to-play system for online
gaming. I really think that's going to fly like a ton of bricks. The second
was an indirect reference to a requirement that mod authors pay a licensing
fee and/or royalty for a steam enabled mod. I can just about guarantee that
will kill the mod community. While it's true that there is no requirement to
use steam at present, the presentation suggests that by the time CS 1.5
comes out that steam be the order of the day.

Personally, I don't know what to think about steam. It sorta looks like that
.NET evil that M$ is trying to shove down peoples throat.
