And your excuse about 'using it to see what the pros are doing' is just so
poor i dont have words, if you want to see pro code then check out the many
engines which have already been given away by the devs which, shock of
shocks, shows you how the pros do it.

I undestand him. Sometimes it is hard to get code to the latest DX features that is tested on several 3D cards and OSs. OpenGL Quake 2 code surely wont help there. Let's say you code a little freeware game or a demo and someone tells you that the program crashes his comp. (Or you just want to be sure this wont happen.) Then you are a happy boy that you have the illegal copy of the HL2 source that may be thoroughly checked for compatibility issues. This is just an opinion of course. And I remember Gabe saying that he always felt we are a community. That even encourages me to proofread my own code with Valve's. But that would mean to ask him to use the code for this pourpose and he doesn't know you and says no. That's for sure. It is a matter of trust you have in somebody. If Havok and Valve would trust in somebody who just wants to see how 'the pros do it' for small freeware programs they would allow you to use it. Most people are glad if the can help and this would weld together the community. But unfortunatly they can't trust even the most honest person they don't know. And here I think it is ok not to let them know at all and use the code to get things done faster and more stable. Now feel free to flame me, ban me or contact my ISP. I just felt that I should help the 'illegals' a bit and to state their point a bit more clearly. No, I don't have the code nor have I ever seen a download source.
