But actually that doesn't work.  I did that in HL2_Player.cpp in the
precache and in the spawn function (where hl2 sets the hands up)  and
nothing changes.  I've tried the barney model and a citizen model.  Neither
works.  It just crashes.  Plus just changing the precache and the setmodel
in the hl2_player.cpp seems not to change a thing.  I'm going to try what
you said one more time but I've been screwing with this for awhile.  I am
doing this in the single player source and not the multiplayer source.  Ok I
double checked and no change took place.. not even an error msg....

But thanks a ton for the reply and maybe you have another idea?

To change it, use setmodel("player/newmodelname.mdl");

But you will also need to precache it. Do that in the ::Precache()
function like this:

PrecacheModel( "models/newmodelname.mdl" );
