And i'm telling you it doesn't work - tried to make it work that way all
day, until i discovered this other workaround.
By using the hl2mp version info, with the source sdk base appid tonight just
so that a playtest could be made.
it still loads appid 215, but it tricks the servers into not trying to issue
an invalid version message from steam because it makes the "hl2mp" and "
1.0.0.12" match.
so the steam.inf included in both the server and client for the mod looks
like this:
PatchVersion=1.0.0.12
ProductName=hl2dm
appID=215

and it's worked, even for people without hl2mp.
