Well I doubt they are gonna do a release of the current version that runs on
steam, since this might give some interesting things away about the
interfacing with the Steam service, although several parts of that are
obviously known to some people anyways already. I'd guess we'd all be
suprised about the changes and the extensions they have made to H-L and the
mods compared to the pre-steam version (i.e just to mention the way the game
window is created etc.).

Or to say it with other words: many things have happened since the last
HLSDK patch (p3).

Having the source would have made coding the sound export for MDT much
easier though, since it would have been easier to spot the differecnces from
the Quake 1 source code (how they extended it to 22.025 kHz 16 Bit Stereo).

What I wanted to say is you can at least get some hints from the Quake 1
sources and some other stuff floating around the net.

I think especially the source code of CS 1.6 would be interesting for the CS
Pro Mod team.

the hl1 engine code in 2k8.

i dont take such rumors serious but i want to be sure.

So

is valve going to release the hl1 engine source 2k8 or anywhere in the
near future?
