The problem is, often I can't even get the glipse of the break window - on
the other side, sometimes when I hit the 'ignore this asset' button I
don't crash there - however, I do later when the menu background map is
loaded with some strange DX 8 and 9 messages (DX8Mesh, or DX9Init failed -
something like that).

Yes, I figured that out also :p It happens just after the server.dll is
called, and after the first Assert == NULL thingy... However, the
hl2.exe
wasn't changed so I don't know what exactly fucks it up, only in
debug...
