Atomic (Very hardware geek mag) did a review in there xmas edition on the drive, and says its a very very good drive, but only has a limited read / write cycle you can read more at the online version;
http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/Review/129009,intel-x25-m-solid-state-drive.aspx I think they said the Samsung is slower, but has a longer life for read/write. You also need to think that the drive writes in 16KB chunks (Slower then a 7800RPM Plater disk), so it would ONLY be faster when your reading data. -------- Owner Nigredo Studios http://www.nigredostudios.com --- On Mon, 8/12/08, Daniel Glenn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > From: Daniel Glenn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [hlcoders] Anyone using an SSD Drive for compiling? > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], "Discussion of Half-Life Programming" > <[email protected]> > Received: Monday, 8 December, 2008, 5:02 PM > Only if USB transferred at 3 gigbits a second. :( > > On Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 5:34 PM, Jed > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Does running the compiler and storing the code on a > 8Gb USB stick > > count as an SSD drive? :D > > > > - Jed > > > > 2008/12/8 Andrew Ritchie <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > > I'd imagine you might see some improvements > with intelisense if you're > > using > > > Visual Studio, and probably a bit of an > improvement on the compiling when > > > it's creating and reading the obj files, but > have no hard evidence. > > > > > > You may have the honour of being the first one to > actually put it to the > > > test. > > > > > > On Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:00 PM, Matt Hoffman > > > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: > > > > > >> I don't see how a SSD Drive would improve > compile times at all.
