I want to make a game in a similar style to The Binding of Isaac (screenshot: http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/8/81005/2021303-i7.png ) but leaning heavily on multiplayer. The Binding of Isaac is a 2D sprite based game. I have years of experience with the Source Engine and I know it has very robust multiplayer facilities so I'd like to use it for my game. I'm aware that the engine really isn't designed for a 2D game at all but I'm wondering how hard it might be to make it work for such a game. I was wondering if you could: 1) tell me any 2D game that has ever used the Source Engine, 2) give me any tips on how it might be done leveraging as much of the existing engine as possible, or 3) tell me if it's just such an awful idea that it shouldn't be attempted at all.
Thanks.
