I was just on a valve server running Snark_pit that was running punkbuster.
I'd say that 80-90% of the players there were getting violation messages
because they (we) weren't running punkbuster. In all the time I've playing
Half-Life online (and I play every day), this is the first time that I'm
aware of that I've played on a server that had punkbuster running.

Maybe it's needed on CounterStrike, but on the valve, op4, tfc and oz
servers that I play on, you never see it, and I don't think many of the
players run it.

Is it really needed if you aren't playing counter-strike? Or is most of the
cheating a Counterstrike phenomonom, and that is the reason you don't see
punk buster on most non-counterstrike servers?

Or have I just been lucky in that none of the servers I play on use
punkbuster? I don't play counter-strike, I don't have punk buster, and I
have no intention of doing/using either in the forseable future.

No legitimate skilled player has a problem running PB. There was reluctance
when it first came out because it was just different, some had problems with
stability, and people didn't really trust it. Nobody today should have a
problem with it unless they a) are cheating and want to avoid being caught
or b) are new to gaming and don't know what's going on...
