I think you over estimate the people who like WON versus STEAM. 2/3 of the players play on the STEAM network versus the WON network prior to the shut down. This is evident by comparing # of players shown @ STEAMPOWERED.COM status page versus the max players found at gamespy.com/stats or w00t.net or serverspy's numbers.
