-- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] i have a box with the same specs as yours and i have the same problem... low FPS even though CPU usage is low. it's the worst at round start when more than 20 players are playing but like you said after a few people die it gets better.
i wrote about this problem here a few times over the past couple of months, but couldn't get much help. the best advice i got was to disable Hyper Threading, which i did, and which helped some but not enough to fix the problem. it's good to know that i'm not alone here. i'd appreciate it if you would send me an e-mail at nik808[at]gmail.com so we can get to the bottom of this. here are some of my previous posts about this issue: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/private/hlds/2005-October/036765.html http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/private/hlds/2005-November/037170.html http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/private/hlds/2005-November/037205.html i was focussed on surf maps in the November posts, but keep in mind the FPS still drops low on other maps such as de_nuke when more than 20 players are in a single server even if all of the other servers are empty or shut off.
