I looked last night in the router screen and didnt see anything about a
firewall, but i'll look a little bit deeper tonight. My external at the moment
is 67.169.102.189 and thats what i entered into the server.cfg file. I think i
do have a spare Linksys WRT54G router. Would you reccomend switching?

y router is a Linksys BEFSR11/BEFSR41. At this time i'm still getting my fi=
rewall straighten out so thats on hold. Im not sure if my router comes with=
a firewall so if it doesnt then im behind a comcast firewall. My IP that s=
hows in my server is 192.168.2.100 and im running my server on CounterStrik=
e 1.6

john thats all great info. If your router comes with a firewall (i
believe most if not all linksys routers do have one) it will be in the
section called security. the ip you gave us is the internel ip. but the
router should state in the status tab what the wan aka external ip is.
that is the one we need. if you have a software firewall you will need
to open al the same ports as you did on the router.

hope this helps some more.

port into the server.cfg file, but it still didnt show up. I dont think i =
am behind a comcast firewall anymore, and i dont think my router actually h=
as a firewall. I was using the hlds from the steam client but now im runnin=
g on a stand alone server. Its all up to date and that jazz. Any sugjestion=
s on what to do next?

(by the way, if you couldnt tell, im only 14 years old. So sorry if i don=
t understand a certain doodad but im getting better :) )

Reply-To: [email protected]

hey all.

A lil while ago i acquired a plugin for source mod that i believe was
called dead chat. It allowed dead players to text chat using the say and
team_say command to the alive players and it made the reverse also true.
I've now lost it and would like to install it. I've looked on the source
mod forums but turned up nothing and ran a couple of searches in google
and that came up with didely squat.

anyone know where i can obtain a copy of this plugin if it exist's and i
didn't imagine it?

The BEFSR41 is an older model. I went through several of them before I got
tired of RMAing them. The earlier models had some very serious quality
problems, and it is too limited for what I do. The WRT54G is a much better
router, and you can get free alternative firmware like talisman or alchemy
that extends the router functionality, such as giving you assignable IP
addresses. I was so dissapointed with it, that it was a long time before I
would use a Linksys product. Anyhow, the router has a firewall, and if you
have not disabled it, then it is on and that alone is enough to keep your
server from appearing on the master list. Find it, and shut it off.

You forwarded port 27015 to 192.168.2.100?

You figured out how to get into your cable modem and shut off it's firewall?
Shut off all firewalls, get server working. Then turn firelwalls on and
configure them to only let server traffic through (and other valid traffic).

Well Look at this it's what happened when I put sv_lan into the console
and this is what I got:

"sv_lan" = "0"
- Server is a lan server ( no heartbeat, no authentication, no
non-class C addresses )
] v_lan1
Unknown command "v_lan1"
] sv_lan 1
] sv_lan
"sv_lan" = "1" ( def. "0" )
- Server is a lan server ( no heartbeat, no authentication, no
non-class C addresses )

I think this could be a problem with the server "maybe" it thinks its a
lan but its not so it doesnt list in the master server list.

But I could be wrong I = "noob" to this.

- Server is a lan server ( no heartbeat, no authentication, no
non-class C addresses ) is the discription of the command.

sv_lan 0 if the game isn't a lan game. sv_lan 1 if the game is a lan game -
so you want 0 so it'll show up on the master broswer.

Remeber to open the ports.
