Valve knows that the stupid people won't be able to understand why they lag on a server with 32 players and why they don't lag on a server with 2 players. So by default they want to make it so the stupid people or the uninformed people would see the Stock/Vanilla servers. Not everyone will know what the Custom tab is for, and only some people will try to figure out what it's for (Smart or Adventurous ones).
But the thing is, they have been allowing this for 5months now? Maybe more? They tried to stop us by doing 2 minor things before all of which have been bypassed. As was this third one. Valve shouldn't just do nothing for a while and now move us to the other tab and hope we will all thank them for it. It's understandable why they want to do this with their game but it's too late now. If people can play my physics map that has 200+ prop_physics entities on a 24 player server on the Internet tab then I don't see why they can't play on a Stock Maps server on the internet tab when it's at 32 players. For most people the map with 200 physics props will lag more than the 32 player server. Just make one list, and if stupid people keep on complaining about being unable to join a 255 player server on their 666Mhz processor then add a filter that checks itself automatically depending on hardware (Also make sure that it can by unchecked by anyone). I would say that they should add the Custom tab functionality to the Internet list but that would not address the fact that stupid people won't be smart enough to use the filters and will still join the servers that they can't possibly play. --------------------------------------------------- >Can't you just make your server normal and have it shown on the Internet tab? > >Surely servers with mods should be niche and people should go looking for them. --------------------------------------------------- Apparently 26+ player servers which have no mods are also on the custom tab. That is without any player limit raising mods or anything. I have removed all the mods/customizations from my servers before I put them back on the Internet list (At 26 and 32), but they have been quite popular.
