No, because people weren't specifically clicking on a vanilla tab - they were just joining what was in front of them. The whole issue was the indifferent or uneducated players who would never go out of their way to look on the custom tab. Now, anyone searching for a tag is definitely looking for that tag, so spoofing tags will not get more legitimate traffic.
