It appears that the appids for L4D2 Dedicated Server Beta are 227040 for
Windows and 227050 for Linux. However, installing one of those packages
only gives you the server binaries and none of the game's actual contents.
I'm not sure if installing appid 223530 (the beta game client) to the
same directory would give you a working server or not. Note that this
appid is not available to all users.

server, they get a message:
Invalid host version, expecting 2118, got 2123
I'm guessing because the server doesn't support the newer client?
