[hlds_apps] HL master?

Is there any reason why hlmaster1.hlauth.net [207.173.177.11] no longer functions as a master server?

I've updated my programs to use the "steam2.steampowered.com" [207.173.177.12] address, but am wondering why were weren't forewarned that it was going down.
