Is Valve moving toward this way of doing things and slowly get everyone off the old way of doing things? - Use steam vs. patching yourself and requiring the steam client?
Probably yes, since it will allow them in the future to cut out the middle man/distributor for new games and get the direct revenues from the players (likely on a monthly-pay-for-account basis).
