It would be useful if you could also include your glibc versions and the exact command line options. I wonder if we could get some other standard environment variables and settings going...
Here's one for VALVE - how extensive is your testbed? As an experienced unix admin I have worked in numerous QA labs most of which have multiboot systems of every OS rev they support. . Since you are focusing on windows and linux for server software, what do you have for your QA systems? Maybe a quick survey of the clientel (us) would be a good idea so that you can make your QA env more reflective of the userbase. Quick thought - does steam report back the HW/SW config of the server/client ? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christian Ingholt" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, September 14, 2003 5:49 AM Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] CPU load > I run a P4 2.8, 1gb ram, ide100, 80gb 8mb cache, with debian stable linux on it and > i am running 4 cs 1.6 servers with out any high ping of spikes on every map including awp and aimmaps. > > I also run a firewall with over 50.000 rules in it so i can channel national and international trafic to the servers. > > I have noticed that when i start the cs16 server in a screen session it starts the > server with the pentium II optimised code, but when i starte the server without screen its use the pentium 4 optimised libs, and after i switch back from using screen to start the servers i have cpu load "CPU states: 4.4% user, 2.2% system, 0.0% nice, 93.4% idle > " with 33 players on. > I am also hosting 6 servers on a dual exeon system with out any ping spikes after i > have switched from starting the server with screen(pentium II based libs) to start them direct without and console option on the server. > > I hope this can help some one your out there. > > Best regards > Christian Ingholt > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Scott Pettit" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Sunday, September 14, 2003 8:26 AM > Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] CPU load > > > > I agree, the load on a P4 2Ghz with 20/20 players is 80% constant and shoots > > up to 98% constantly.
