Well you guys think shell is that much of a waste but imagine being like
me.
I have a 15KB/Sec upload. I cannot run a server.
If I have to upload everything with FTP, eg a mappack of a few hundred MB's
I got to let my PC on for days to upload that. With SSH I could simply do a
wget and the servers fast connection pulls it down.

It can also pull down all kinds of unsavory stuff, local root exploits, rootkits, you name it. Plus, you can sit and leech bandwidth all day, DOS other sites/individuals/companies/government, etc.

Sounds like a great thing to give my users!!!

I have seen no gaming
control panel that does that so far.

For damn good reason.

FTP is OK for plugins and stuff but for the persons who like a refreshing
mapcycle its a total hell. Also FTP is not that secure if you want to keep
that much control for yourself since you can simply install plugins that
read other files from the server

No. Its called DefaultRoot ~, you cannot view other areas of MY filesystem. Quite UNLIKE SSH.

or put a very high ticrate on.

Just like you can do with SSH.

Since there
clear guides and distributions only "new admins" will pay twice as much
than
a dedicated server to get FTP and some crappy webpanel.

If they want to, they are welcome to. Nobody is stopping them. That is why managed game server providers still exist is because people:

1) Dont want to deal with it
2) would rather pay someone to do it anyway
3) havent a clue

Either way, we cater to them quite successfully, and no $70/mo P4 server is
going to change that.

(Yes people, you can
have a dedicated box for 70 bucks a month with a Pentium 2.4 500GB b/w
plesk
etc. nowadays)

I mean every developed human being can set up a HLDS, even under Linux, now
there is an arsenal of guides. (Thanks to communities like counter-server,
hostinghacks, ev1servers etc.)

Doubtful.

I know it isn't a smart move to say this on a list filled with gamingserver companies but I am ready for your point of view and might learn something of it :)

Say what you want, its a free country. I reserve the right to disagree with you on nearly every aspect of this post however.

Dan
