Hmm.. 40 update servers..
Total of 2.0gb throughput..

On average, that's roughly 53mb available data pipe for each of the 40
servers.

That's still not much better than most standard hosting centers have.
Chances are pretty high that they're not dedicating dual DS3's to each of
those 40 update servers either.

Per Steams server count, and the SteamPowered published information, there
are currently 4100+ (at this moment) dedicated gaming servers online, and
near 100,000 end users during peak times, when updates roll out, everyone
will be hitting those 40 update servers pretty heavy.

Let's just say that each dedicated server and end user has only a 1.5mb
connection for ease of the math and if my math is correct (grin):

104100 connections x 1.5mb: 109,156,761,600 bits p/sec (109Gb)

Steam has 2.0Gb available for them to communicate with.
