That's really very narrow minded of you...suggesting that a character set that only reliably encodes a subset of one language is sufficient.
If the charset srcds supports is UTF-8 then just use a UTF-8 console. Simple.
Well, it might be simple to set UTF-8 as a console, but the annoying thing is when you go through the logs to see whats happend.. and all is jibberish. I rather have a ASCII-7 and live without the swedish characters, than to have all these junkchars. I already get spamed by these chars by mail... now I have to get spammed in my log files?
Why are the logs "jibberish"? With a modern Unix there should be no problem dealing with logs encoded in UTF-8 whatsoever. Have a look at http://redux.org.uk/utf8-logs.png for an example.

Yes! Even cutting and pasting some of that stuff into my initial emails was difficult. I would press SPACE after the paste and it was if I press BACKSPACE a couple times before the SPACE.
Referring to my screenshot, pasting UTF-8 into email is very difficult indeed, see:
A log with some Japanese ãããã in.
