That's really very narrow minded of you...suggesting that a character

If the charset srcds supports is UTF-8 then just use a UTF-8 console.
Simple.
Well, it might be simple to set UTF-8 as a console, but the annoying thing
is when you go through the logs to see whats happend.. and all is
jibberish. I rather have a ASCII-7 and live without the swedish
characters, than to have all these junkchars. I already get spamed by
these chars by mail... now I have to get spammed in my log files?
Why are the logs "jibberish"? With a modern Unix there should be no
problem dealing with logs encoded in UTF-8 whatsoever. Have a look at
http://redux.org.uk/utf8-logs.png for an example.
well.. I dont want to open it up in a X-window type of client. so that
does not prove anything... I want to grep, awk, sed things out directly
from the console. without anything breaking the output.
Erm, the window on the right is a Windows telnet/ssh client, not X
Windows. It also shows me using grep and "without anything breaking the
output".
I still dont se the benefit of using UTF-8 in a game like this... its more
pain than gain imo... If there should be support of charsets, at least let
the admin decide whats should be used and not.. the next step is probably
to use binary logs... with all 0's and 1's...
They _are_ binary, at a certain level.

Yes! Even cutting and pasting some of that stuff into my initial emails
was difficult. I would press SPACE after the paste and it was if I
press BACKSPACE a couple times before the SPACE.
Referring to my screenshot, pasting UTF-8 into email is very difficult
indeed, see:
A log with some Japanese ベラク in.
I dont use all these fancy graphical emailclients...
Wow, you're so hard core. That's entirely your problem.
John.
