Well actually, as server admins we are giving valve stuff for free too.

Without us, there would be no CSS or HLDM servers and valve would have
to run their own.

We provide a free service for them, the more SRCDS server there are the
more likely people are to buy valves software and they intern provide a
free service for us. It's a symbiotic relationship.

And expecting a software development company to test their software
before releasing it, isn't too much to ask I don't think :)

Especially when you have an update platform like steam

It'd be nice to get an explanation out of valve of what happened... not
to point the finger at anyone, but just for them to be able to tell us
how they are going to stop it happening again.

My 2 cents

Joel

I am sick of everybody bitching about the problems that valve has with
their update. SO WHAT? They provide the server software for FREE, the
bandwidth for FREE! You cannot be asking for quality of service for
software that is provided to you for free.

If you know you might have problems with updates, dont autoupdate,
have backups, etc.

AND STOP BITCHING! I think Valve/Steam doe a GREAT JOB!
