Some calculations and thoughts about that net-settings. The question follows ...
Such a server has a "resolution" of 10ms at 100 tics per second. A clients requests updates 20 times second and sends 30 commands to the server per second. I am assuming, that the number of commands should be higher than the number of updates to give a better chance of receiving the servers "answers" of a sent command instead of getting updates that do not already contain such an answer (for example, "did the shot hit?"). Also, the updates seem to be dependend on the command rate, possibly getting an update only after a command reached the server? So, cl_cmdrate should better be always higher than cl_updaterate, and never be lower. Yes? With, for example, slightly increase sv_maxupdaterate of 40, we get a server-latency of 1/40 = 0.025 = 25ms which should be enough - at least for an internet server. How much should we increase cl_cmdrate then? _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
