I quite like authing to play a single player game as I know the
alternative is to put the CD of the game I want to play into the drive
making it just a little more scratched each time. So many old games
that I can't play because of protection.

However I find it strange that if I pull out my network cable I am
given the option of an offline version of steam, if their server is
down then I am not.
