It is still a major problem and has been since the protocol switch
nearly a year ago.

I believe no one even knew about it until I mentioned it 4 months
afterwards, when I started tracking the appearance of servers on the
master list and finding random ones disappearing after every steam
downtime. Being disconnected from quickplay is also a problem.

Most server owners probably don't realize why their servers are
emptying out in the middle of the day so that is why not many people
talk about this. I stopped talking about this every time because I got
tired of saying the same thing, not because the problem has gone away.
Last week it happened 2 times in 1 day.

Valve should give a higher priority for fixing this. This is not just
something that server owners care about, it creates a jarring player
experience when the server randomly empties out, and one of 3 things
happen.

1. The player has to waste time searching for another good server, not
knowing if the next server he joins also has the same problem, but due
to luck did not empty out as fast.
2. The player waits out the drop in players, not realizing he is
probably going to waste the rest of his free time.
3. The owner kicks everyone on reboot.

There are already rumors of private plugins being able to solve these
issues without a reboot. This should not be necessary.
