Huh - looks like an old version of the Actionwebservice init.rb (from back in
Rails 1.2.x) with this Mongrel fix attached:

What version does the plugin claim to be (in the CHANGELOG file)?
You may also want to try the quasi-official port of AWS from
https://github.com/datanoise/actionwebservice to see if that changes anything.
