Indeed, my machine could the cause of this slowness but I see some difference between hobo 1.0 with rails 2.x on ruby 1.9.1 and now.
I'm working with a laptop T6600 (core 2 duo, 2,2Ghz), clearly appearing to be less performant than yours. And, for the moment, development under windows 7 with ruby 1.9.2p0, mysql and dataset nearly empty (we are beginning the application) Indeed, ruby 1.9.2p0 could be also the source of the problem and may be much slower than jruby or ruby 1.8.7.
