Hi All Geek Friends - So, i have been ascribing "good will" whenever i receive viruses in my mail box, as we talked about here on HolyGeek last month. It has been good advice for me to follow. Just this morning, i again awoke to 3 viruses and ascribed "good will" to the sender. :)
I also received a notification asking me to confirm a request made to unsubscribe my ID from Panhala... But the thing is, i never sent any request to unsubscribe from Panhala or any other group... Either someone logged in using my Yahoo ID and yahoo password and sent an email from my account to Panhala using the email address for unsubscriptions. ... And Yahoo replied back to my mail address with the standard unsubscribe confirmation request mail... OR someone forged the unsubscribe mail from yahoogroups and sent it to me. BOTH scenarios are illegal actions - in the first one, the person has clearly hacked into my account using my password and sent a mail while impersonating me. That is clearly identity theft and fraud. In the second scenario, the person sent a forged mail from yahoogroups, impersonating a representative of yahoogroups. That is clearly fraudulent behavior. There are ways this can and will be traced by yahoogroups. I cannot find any way to ascribe "good intentions" to this, unless someone is "boasting" about their technical prowess, becoming bolder and bolder to show me that they can choose to impersonate me any time they wish. Maybe they think it is fun, but to me, it feels threatening and like an act of intentionally intimidating me. Gosh, i really hope that when yahoogroups catches up with the person who has done this, they are kind to that person. I have said it before (actually borrowed the expression from Lobster) - be kind... it's the right thing to do. I haven't asked for much, but an apology would be appreciated. What some people see as fun and games can be very frightening to a person who has been stalked and harmed in real life. This is very distressing to me. Maybe people here can help me put a positive spin on this? Maybe people here can find a different explanation for what has happened besides the two scenarios i came up with? love and peace, joyce ------------------------ Yahoo!
