Babel has been ported to Android, but most of the Android work is being
done with OLSR, notably within the Commotion Wireless project.

There are two fundamental reasons why the Commotion software requires
a rooted phone, and only works on selected hardware:

  - manipulating the kernel's routing table requires being root;
  - stock Android doesn't support IBSS (ad-hoc) mode.

The latter point is hopefully not relevant to Homenet, but the former is
probably impossible to solve without action from Google.
