Tim,

The French Horn: Some Notes on the Evolution of the Instrument and of
Its Technique by Morley-Pegge is good. However, it is out of print.
Try a college music library near you or you might be able to order it.
I found it on the Thompson edition website:

Subject: [Hornlist] A History of the Horn

Hello everyone! I am currently writing a brief history of the horn,
and was wondering if anyone had any good resources, whether they be
internet or printed. I already am using the Encyclopedia Britannica,
and have gotten about as much information as possible from it. Thanks
   a lot for your help!
