Hopefully the mic is near the front of your bell and not behind the bell - 
sound guys rarely understand that unlike most instruments our sound is not 
meant to be heard exactly as it comes out the bell. I wrestled with Navy sound 
guys for years about this. "But that's how the sound manual tells me to do 
it..."
The suggestions you've received here are good. Play everything as you would 
without the mic, and let the knob twisters worry about what to do with the 
amplified sound.
