Hi Lawrence, No harm done or taken! You're right though: he is a good player, and a nice guy, so it's a diplomatic minefield.
What he does in the other movements isn't quite as bothersome-- [well, o.k., the "donkey call" IS bloody annoying] it's the conducting in the Nocturne I find particularly distracting. I like the "easier with one conductor" idea; I'll try that at tomorrow's rehearsal.
