Your RIP should have a "passthrough" option to do what you're thinking. 
However, ideally you should have first set ink limits/reductions, then 
use the RIP to print the target to get a profile. To use a canned 
profile you'd have to get the entire print configuration for a 
particular printer/media combination from the RIP manufacturer.

What profile did you use to convert from your AdobeRGB or sRGB working 
space?

I had the same dilemma like you in that I only have an RGB profiling 
setup, but luckily my RIP has a nice color seperation rule engine that 
allows me to profile in RGB without any problems.

The RIP first separates my RGB target file into CMYK following my setup 
for ink limits and color separation rules (ie. total ink at black 
point, primary color ink percentage, black cut off point with 
corresponding total ink, gray balance sliders, etc.), then send it to 
the printer. Then plug the new profile into the output section of the 
RIP's color transform.

You must figure out a way to profile via the RIP in RGB mode or upgrade 
your profiling setup to CMYK.
