Hi Mark, You should have some good feedback from toasterboy and Cy in earlier mails. Speed is not one of the strong points of this printer. In its time, quality was more important. Zeh Raster will print jpeg and bmp files, but if you are prepared to invest in a Unix system to be able to use Zeh raster, I'd rather recommend, like the others have done, to invest in a Rip like PosterJet or EFI. They would be much better to work with in an XP environment.
Regarding the paper, I'm not sure yet. It is mentioned on the list I gave you, but if you go to the media page itself and then click for compatible printers, the CP series is not on that list. From experience, if the ink smudges, then the media and ink are not compatible. Or the coating is not good. With regards to the ink, I think for this printer it would be a good idea to stay with one type. Indeed, the dye has a very good gamut compared to the UV inks. We don't know yet what you want to do with your prints, so it's a guess as to say which to use. But for this printer, you might want to print and then use spray laminate. Well, where to start. Yes, I am using XP and are able to print with the drivers. I don't know anything about the RIP itself as I don't have a copy. I am assuming that it would improve the processing/print speed of the plotter and perhaps give a little bit more control than the drivers, perhaps not?? Just using the drivers itself, it does take a looong time to process ever a smallish file. If it is not supported by XP but does have some significant speed improvements, I would certainly look at setting up a stand-alone UNIX box for it to work out of. Thanks for the compatible material PDF, that paper is certainly on that list so perhaps it is related to the age of the inks. The paper itself is not that old & was never opened. The smudging occurs even after a 24hr drytime :( Looks like a new purchase is in order. Would you recommend purchasing both types of ink (the dye & the UV pigment) or just start off with the dye's?
