Hi,

I installed hplip-1.6.6 (+hplip-1.6.6-1.patch) on a clean ubuntu breezy server install. Prior to the install cupsys was not even installed.

Following the installation instructions, after issuing the apt-get install ... command, cupsys was not installed, I had to install it manually. Is this missing from the instructions, or is it because hplip doesn't necessarily have to be used via cups?

I added my printer with hp-setup -a, and it was detected without any problems. However, printing the test page yielded nothing. So I turned the logging to debug, and saw that the gs command was not found. So I did an apt-get install gs. Should this be in the install docs too?

My problem is, that now when I print the test page from cups admin pages, nothing happens. the printer status is:
Printer State: processing, accepting jobs.
"open print channel failed; will retry in 30 seconds..."

When I run hp-setup -a again it sits there for quite a long time after saying:
Printing test page...
Test page has been sent to printer. Waiting for printout to complete...

Can anyone help? What would my next port of call be? I cannot see anything else in /var/log/cups/error_log, but it seems to me like the "gs" command is failing - it seems to take a long time, and then exits after doing nothing.

Please could you also let me know what other relevant information I can include.

Many Thanks,
Marcin Jekot
