Maybe it all your comments are correct Fred, but you are in a SEVERE minority.  

If you measure the amount of Open Source projects that use mailing lists, vs
forums, you will find that nearly all of them use mailing lists.

Hypersonic and may a few other groups are using forums.

I think the numbers speak for themselves.
