I've got a strange problem with my Htdig setup. This has been running 3.1.5 on Windows NT 4 sp6 (We've never managed to get 3.1.6 to compile under Cygwin)
Anyway, one of our users has reported that if she searches for "Moray House Library" using the form at the top-right of the page at www.edinburgh.gov.uk, with the 'restrict' option set to (blank) {choose 'entire site' from the drop-down box}
Ignore the first entry in the results, but look at the next 26: They all link to the various pages of a database-driven section of the > site.
The curious thing is that the excerpt that is displayed is identical for each page, (taken from the 'A' page), although the links point to pages A, B... Z
Have you defined your match_method attribute to be something other than 'AND'? If for example it is being set to 'OR', then your results would include every document that contains the term 'library' (or libraries as things appear to be configured). This would in turn result in htsearch returning a hit on all of those pages due to the common components of each.
Have you tried using a more generic search page (such as that provided with the standard ht://Dig distribution) to eliminate possible problems with the manner in which you are presenting the query to htsearch?
Did you say that you have completely rebuilt the databases from scratch? If not, I would give that a try and see if the problem repeats itself.
Reported results under Windows have been mixed. If you can't otherwise find the cause of the problem you are running into you might have to consider the possibility that the build you are using just isn't playing well in the Windows environment.
