Hi mac users,

Despite my remarks in previous mails I decided to build a full
4-architecture Universal 32/64-bit build for ppc/i386/ppc64/x86_64 (and
don't say that I don't love you).
Due to the fact that the 4 CPU-architectures are merged into one
application, the Hugin.app is now a 188MB in size (including the tools). Not
200+MB as I thought before, as the Gui itself is "only" 32bit.
Next to that a set of several versions of enfuse and enblend are included.
Total compressed image size 94MB, uncompressed 261MB. You get a whole lotta
Hugin for your money.

Everything is compiled for 4 architectures except from the Gui itself which
is 32bit and everything should run on all hardware platforms as of G3 and as
of Tiger, apart from enblend/enfuse ((2) and see further).
Everything has been built up from scratch again with -O2 compilation
optimization whereas the last 2 bundles where compiled with -O3
optimization. These last 2 bundles caused troubles on G4/G5 Tiger
combinations. The bundle is still compiled against jpeg-8. If that's the
"evil doer" than it still won't function and I need to go back to jpeg-7
(and might be able to use -O3 after all?)

This 32bit/64bit bundle should run in 64bit mode when both your hardware
(G5, Intel core duo or better) and your MacOSX (Leopard and SnowLeopard)
support it. Note though that the Gui is 32bit and will display as such in
Finder(*). The tools will run in 64bit mode.
- Nona, hugin_hdrmerge, enblend, enfuse and all other tools will run in
64bit when possible.
- Enfuse and enblend are OpenMP enabled (2). Those on Tiger should use the
Tiger build from the "enblend-enfuse-4.0/Tiger" folder in the dmg image.
- The optimise step (1) is part of the hugin application/gui and therefore a
32bit "part".
- pto_merge and pano_modify (Thomas Modes' new tools) have been added as
well in the Tools section (see the accompanying Readme.txt in the "Hugin
Tools" in the dmg image)

In the "enblend-enfuse-4.0" folder in the dmg image you can find several
standalone enfuse/enblend versions.
- Tiger -> For all of you still on Tiger, no matter the hardware.
- Leopard-SnowLeopard/32bit-Universal-openMP  -> For G3/G4 and Intel mono
core and (early) intel duo-core with 32bit EFI.
- Leopard-SnowLeopard/64bit-Universal -> compiled without OpenMP.
- Leopard-SnowLeopard/64bit-Universal-openMP
And off course: Read the Readme.txt inside the folder.

(*): Applications in 32/64-bit build can be set to always run in 32bit or
64bit mode from Finder (Application, right-click, Get info). Hugin Gui is
32bit and doesn't know/show that switch.

Note: I only did some basic testing. I didn't do speed comparisons either
for 32bit vs. 64bit or OpenMP enabled vs. Non-OpenMP enabled or combinations
of these. The whole exercise already took quite some time.
I am curious though what your test results are, so your feedback is most
welcome.

As always: Information and binaries via my website

(The binaries themselves are served from hugin.panotools.org who kindly
provide the disk space and bandwidth).

Hoi,
Harry
