No change there then.
When I ran and was resident in a Folk club back in the 60's, there was
always conflict (we really concentrated on traditional, ourselves) and had
everything from Elizabethan ballads (all 104 verses - unaccompanied) to the
very latest Tom Paxton and Bert Jansch numbers.
We were happy to cater for all tastes and those that didn't like a
particular style just chose their moments to go to the loo, get another pint
etc.
There was, however, one club in Liverpool which had a strict "no instruments
whatsoever" rule - and that included guitars/whistles/pipes/HGs/fiddles -
you name it.
Traditional folk SONG club, they said.
They eased it after a while to just "a dirty look if you had an instrument"
club. :-)
