I don't call that silly.  I think it would be quite practical.  All you
would need is a switch to turn off the current for maintenance.  I am
thinking it could be quite useful across a range of instruments that have to
spend time in public places.

In our sillier moments we've considered how to get the wheel charged up to
10,000 volts so that reckless people who get too close get a strong shock
and
pull back by reflex.  Of course it would make cottoning difficult.

We've even had people reach UNDER the wheel cover.  I shall not repeat the
words that went through my head.
