This whole wheel problem at assemblies and demonstrations is what a Symphony is 
really good for.

I've thought several times about loading mine with jumping snakes or the like 
before I open it to show the innards.

"Now kids, I've got guards in here, so keep your fingers away."  

Sproing! (spring loaded snakes jump out)

"Your hands weren't far enough away!  Try putting them in your pockets before I 
open it again."
